Boxing By Jon Ivan-Duke

Huge Bet on Mayweather

Bookmakers William Hill have taken £200,000 from a single Northern Ireland-based punter in the run-up to the mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

The 80 year-old high-roller initially bet £150k at odds of 1/2 and has now topped that up with a further £50k at the same odds. Should Mayweather defeat Pacquiao, the customer will have been paid out MORE THAN £1MILLION on boxing bets by William Hill in just the past year.

“He’s the golden oldie, the boxing supremo who rarely gets it wrong. He’s had 12 bets in the past year and 11 of them have won. Mayweather might be the Money man but this punter makes boxing betting look easy,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

William Hill expect the Mayweather v Pacquiao bout to be the biggest betting event in boxing history, with the current record fight (the second encounter between Froch and Groves saw £1.2million bet with William Hill) likely to be beaten.

“More money will be wagered on this fight than any other in the history of betting,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “It’s certainly TBE for the bookies – The Best Ever.”

But it might not last the distance – that’s the opinion of William Hill customers, with over 75% of the punters thinking it won’t go to a decision.
