Grand National: Punter Bets Big on Shutthefrontdoor

William Hill can report a significant price change in the Grand National market following a sizeable bet on Shutthefrontdoor, AP McCoy’s most likely mount for the Aintree feature.

William Hill are now 12-1 from 16-1 for Shutthefrontdoor to win the Grand National, with one individual punter standing to win £40k after staking £2500 online.

“One of our internet customers is betting big on a last hurrah for McCoy in the Grand National. Shutthefrontdoor has been well-backed since AP’s retirement announcement and the choice to scratch the horse from the Cheltenham Gold Cup has only strengthened his popularity in the market,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

It’s not just big staking clients who are getting on the Grand National gamble. Punters up and down the country have been quick to latch on to Shutthefrontdoor with the horse set to swerve the Gold Cup in favour of a crack at the richest race in the Britain. Shutthefrontdoor looks a prime candidate for the race, being the right sort of age and already an Irish Grand National winner. His price has come in from 20-1 before AP McCoy announced his retirement at the weekend, in to 16-1 and is now 12-1 following the big plunge.

“We considered running a market on which horse AP would ride in the Grand National, but it would be heavily odds-on that Shutthefrontdoor will be his Aintree mount,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
