Faugheen Favourite For Christmas Hurdle

William Hill have priced up their first market on this year’s Christmas Hurdle, with Faugheen the 4-6 favourite to win the Kempton hurdling crown for the second year in a row.

The Willie Mullins-trained star was defeated for the first time in his career over the weekend, when stablemate Nichols Canyon nabbed him in the Morgiana Hurdle.

But William Hill think that was a blip on an otherwise unblemished record.

“Faugheen has to be forgiven a slightly below par performance on his first run in six months and we fully expect ‘The Machine’ to be back firing on all cylinders come Christmas time,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

However, the 2013 winner My Tent Or Yours could be a likely danger and is 11-2 in the betting. Nicky Henderson’s star hurdler has been off the track since April 2014, but looks on track for a mouth-watering match-up.

The New One could return to Kempton for another crack at the race and is 7-1 to win the Christmas Hurdle, after winning his reappearance run at the course. Christmas Hurdle: 4-6 Faugheen, 11-2 My Tent Or Yours, 7-1 The New One, 10-1 Irving, 25-1 All Yours, (EW 1/5 Odds Places 1,2,3)
