Douvan Backed As Punters Aim for Festival Flyer
It’s one-way traffic in William Hill’s new ‘Guaranteed Return’ Supreme Novices’ Hurdle market, with Douvan heavily backed as the firm launched their biggest ever Cheltenham offer.
Douvan has been smashed across all William Hill channels since the offer launched at 8.30am, with customers knowing that whatever their selection for the race, if it doesn’t win then their bets will be refunded as a free bet*.
As a result, William Hill have cut the odds to 6-4 from 7-4 for Douvan to win the Supreme.
Speaking to William Hill TV about Douvan, Willie Mullins said: “Douvan has done everything we’ve ever asked him. Any bit of work he’s done, he’s done it well. We’ve brought him to the track twice, he’s done it well. I know Cheltenham is left handed and undulating but I think that will suit him better. I think he’ll love that stiff climb to the finish.”
“He’s a Champagne Fever type of horse, he’s angular and tall and immature, whereas Vautour was big but strong. This fellow, he’s more like Mikael D’Haguenet, he’s a big, angular type of individual.”
William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said: “Douvan is easily the best-backed horse in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and could be a costly result, particularly as we’ll also be refunding all losing bets on the race.”
