Dante to be Key Derby Trail

The Dante winner hasn’t won the Derby since Authorized in 2007 but this year’s renewal looks like it could put that statistic to the sword. William Hill’s favourite, joint-second favourite, fourth and sixth in the Investec Derby betting are all present in the Dante and it looks like the strongest trial for next month’s Classic.

William Hill are offering odds of 11-10 for any horse who runs in the Dante to win the 2015 Derby.

The last horse to run in the Dante and go on to win the Derby was Workforce in 2010 (he was second in the Dante before scoring at Epsom).

“The betting suggests the Dante will be the most important trial for the Derby,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “This is no ordinary Dante and with so many fancied Derby horses falling by the wayside in other trials, whoever wins will be the anointed favourite for Epsom.”

Current Dante and Derby favourite Jack Hobbs is 10-1 to do the double, Elm Park is 14-1, while John F Kennedy is also 14-1 to win both races.
