Chelsea Flower Show: Punters Piling On Pearson

Bookmakers William Hill are betting on the Best Show Garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show and if the betting popularity is a guide to the likely winner, then the ‘Laurent-Perrier Chatsworth Garden’ looks a near certainty.

The garden is designed by Dan Pearson and takes inspiration from Chatsworth’s ornamental trout stream and the biggest gamble in Chelsea Flower Show history has seen the odds completely collapse from 4/1 to 8/13.

If you’d had a tenner on at the initial odds of 4/1, you’d make £40 profit (plus your £10 stake back) if the Laurent-Perrier Chatsworth Garden wins.

But now, that same tenner at the current odds of 8/13 would make you just £6.15 profit (plus £10 stake back). It shows just how popular Dan Pearson’s garden creation is within the betting market.

“There’s a torrent of support for Dan Pearson’s show garden with money coming in from all corners,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “It’s hard to pinpoint the root of this gamble, but the fact Pearson makes his return to Chelsea after over a decade away is likely to have swayed some people.”

It’s not quite a one-horse race, with a trickle of money for ‘The M&G Garden – The Retreat’ backed from 12-1 to 9-1.
