Can A Darts Player Ride A Horse? Can A Jockey Hit A 180?
The two biggest sporting events of the festive period are the William Hill World Darts Championship and the William Hill King George VI Chase.
PDC darts players Stephen Bunting and James Wade met up with top jockeys Paddy Brennan and Tom O’Brien, to see just how hard it is to ride a horse and to give some handy tips on how to throw the arrows.
Watch the videos below as former BDO World Champion Stephen Bunting gets a riding lesson from Paddy Brennan, while James Wade demonstrates how to throw the perfect dart.
Paddy Brennan rides leading contender Cue Card in the William Hill King George VI Chase, which is the biggest horse race of the entire Winter. The race is staged at Kempton Park on Boxing Day and features all of the top riders and horses, including strong challengers from Ireland.
Paddy Brennan: “I’m really looking forward to it this year, I’ve got the ride on Cue Card and he’s one of the leading contenders….I know he’s been there three times and it hasn’t worked out, but I’ve ridden in the William Hill King George on horses like Nacarat and Imperial Commander and this horse, if there’s any horse out of all them that will be really suited by it, it’ll be him.”
Stephen Bunting and James Wade are both through to Round 2 of the William Hill World Darts Championship. Stephen Bunting will face Raymond van Barneveld next, while James Wade will take on Wes Newton.
James Wade: “I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a jockey. I know they’ve got a big companion to help them on their way, but it must be amazing with the atmosphere, the buzz of the stands, the expectance and you still don’t know what your horse is going to do. It can be the best horse, the best form, but you don’t know what’s going to happen.”
