Bumper Betting Weekend Could See £55m+ Wagered

With the Derby, Champions League Final, Men’s and Women’s French Open Finals and the Canadian Grand Prix all taking place this weekend, bookmakers William Hill are predicting that £11m will be wagered with them and up to £55m across the industry.

“This is one of the biggest sporting weekends of the year and there will be up to £55m wagered on the five biggest sporting events,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Throw in the rest of the action and we are set for a bumper weekend of sport.”

Frankie Dettori on Golden Horn is the 6/4 favourite to win the Derby and would be the worst result by far should he be first past the post.

In the Champions League, it is all about the Messi Factor. Barcelona are 4/11 to defeat Juventus and lift the trophy and 8/13 to do so in 90 minutes. Messi, himself has been the subject of 40% of all first goalscorer bets and 52% of all man of the match bets for which he is 7/2 and 5/2 respectively.

The women’s World Cup also kicks off this weekend and it is safe to say that this will be the biggest women’s football betting event of all time. Up to £500,000 is set to be wagered on the tournament with William Hill, who make the USA the 11/4 favourites. Germany are 3/1 second favourites ahead of France at 7/1 while England are 25/1.
