Bookies Braced For Big British Extravaganza

William Hill are braced for a big weekend of betting, with British Champions Day taking centre stage on Saturday.

Millions of pounds will be wagered on the Ascot races, with William Hill expecting three horses to be particularly popular – the ‘Terrible Trio’ of Jack Hobbs, Solow and Muhaarar.

“There could be some incredibly well-backed favourites this weekend as punters look to see out the British Flat season with a bang,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

One horse who could disrupt that trio is Gleneagles, but William Hill customers are waiting to see whether he will run or not.

“Punters are holding fire in the QEII, as once again, we wait to find out if Gleneagles runs or not. Understandably given his reputation for skipping races this year, punters are wary of backing him too soon.”

But the money continues to come for The Tin Man in the British Champions Sprint – he has been cut to 8-1 from 14-1 at the start of the week.

“The Tin Man is attracting plenty of each-way support and punters clearly think he could give Muhaarar something to think about in the Sprint,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

In the Champion Stakes, Vadamos is popular with punters and has shortened to 6-1 from 8-1.

“Although Jack Hobbs will be the big bogey for us on Saturday, Vadamos is certainly taking a slice of the betting market in the Champion Stakes.”

In The Long Distance Cup, Alex My Boy is the horse to shorten in the market, now 8-1 from 10-1 with William Hill.

“The Long Distance Cup is wide open, but the best-supported horse in the race is Alex My Boy.”

In the Balmoral Handicap, Sacrificial is now 7-1 joint-favourite from 8-1, with Buckstay sharing the top spot in the market, while there is a good spread of money in the Fillies and Mares Stakes, with Covert Love the 4-1 favourite.
