Biggest Bet On Oaks

William Hill have taken their joint-biggest wager on this year’s Investec Oaks after a mystery punter in the Kensington & Chelsea area staked £5,000 at odds of 7/1 on Crystal Zvezda to win the Epsom fillies’ Classic.

The shop-goer, who had never placed a bet in that particular branch of William Hill before, nailed his colours to the Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly and immediately the traders slashed the price to 6/1 from 7/1. That price has narrowed further to 11/2 after a continuing stream of money nationwide for Crystal Zvezda.

In March, William Hill took a £5,000 bet in East London on Found at odds of 5/1 – that highest-staking bet has now been equalled.

“The mystery punter had not stepped foot in the shop before and immediately asked for five large on Crystal Zvezda. It’s the biggest bet on the Oaks so far,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
