Big Bets For Fame Game as Trip to Paris Firms in Melbourne Cup Betting
The biggest money on this year’s Melbourne Cup has continued to come for favourite Fame Game after the trend of huge bets continued over the past 24 hours.
Mammoth bets of $25,000, $22,500 & $15,000 came in overnight for the Japanese stayer, however its Ed Dunlop’s $8 shot Trip to Paris that has been firming with Australia’s leading online bookmaker WilliamHill.com.au
“To put it simply, if Fame Game wins the Melbourne Cup it’s going to be a very, very dark day for the bookies. We have one punter who will pocket almost $335,000 if Fame Game gets up, and if that happens I’ll probably be out of a job tomorrow!” William Hill spokesperson Tim Ashworth said.
Sertorious, the only Australian-bred horse in the race, was the other big mover overnight coming into $81 from $201.
William Hill stands to win $5 million if the local can pull off a memorable win after CEO Tom Waterhouse used yesterday’s Call of the Card to hedge against William Hill’s In-Play market, which allows punters to bet up to 90 seconds after the jump at the pre-raced fixed odds.
