Arise AP? SPOTY More Likely Than Strictly

It’s the end of an era as Champion Jockey AP McCoy hangs up his riding boots this week, with his final rides at Sandown on Saturday.

William Hill are offering a number of betting specials, with the most likely scenario that he receives a knighthood by the 2nd January 2016 – a 2/1 poke with the bookies.

“There’s nobody quite like McCoy, he’s broken record-after-record in the saddle and it’s surely only a matter of time before he becomes Sir AP,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

But it’s a wild shot in the dark for the saddle king to swap his boots for ballet pumps – William Hill make it 20/1 for McCoy to waltz in to the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

It’s slightly more likely he’ll be tucking in to a bushtucker trial, with Hill’s offering odds of 12/1 that he takes part in this year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

McCoy has drifted slightly to win Sports Personality Of The Year, but he is still in with a real chance of winning as the 5/1 second-favourite (from 4/1 favourite). He’s been overtaken in the betting by the speed demon Lewis Hamilton, who is the current 2/1 SPOTY jolly.

AP’s second-home is the winners’ enclosure and Hill’s offer 10/1 he’s back in the limelight at Cheltenham Festival by the end of 2020, by training, breeding or owning a Festival winner. It’s 16/1 for him to do the same with a Grand National winner.
