AP's First Obstacle
In the build up to Saturday’s Grand National, William Hill are offering special odds of 6/4 that all 40 horses will clear the first fence in this year’s Grand National.
Last Five Renewals – First Fence:
2014 – Battle Group (Refused To Race), Twirling Magnet (Fell 1st)
2013 – All cleared first fence
2012 – Viking Blond (Fell 1st)
2011 – That’s Rhythm (Fell 1st)
2010 – King Johns Castle (Refused To Race), Eric’s Charm (Fell 1st)
One man who will be hoping to do a little more than clear the first fence will be Champion jockey AP McCoy. Speaking in a blog for William Hill, McCoy said he will be carrying a lot of emotion in to this year’s race, but that it won’t affect his focus on winning the Aintree feature for a second time:
“I’m probably more excited this year than I’m ever going to get because it’s going to be the last one. I won’t be changing my approach but obviously beforehand I’ll have mixed feelings, different feelings, but when the time actually comes and once the race starts, it will be just as normal to be honest.”
Meanwhile, in the market for Saturday’s race, Balthazar King has been trimmed to 10-1 from 11-1 after continued support. AP McCoy’s mount Shutthefrontdoor remains favourite at 7-1.
William Hill’s Grand National Blog featuring AP McCoy will run from Tuesday to Saturday
