Almost 90% Of All Wagers For England Ahead Of Second Test
Nearly 90% of all wagers on the Ashes have been for an England win since the end of the first Test, such is the optimism that has swept the nation in the wake of that opening victory. Alastair Cook’s men are Even money favourites to win the series with Australia 13/8 and the drawn series 4/1.
In the build up to the Second Test at Lord’s it is England who have proven popular with punters to win it at 7/4. Joe Root has topped the charts for most wagers in the “top England batsman” market and Josh Hazlewood has been favoured for the “top Australia bowler” market for which the pair are both 3/1.
“All of the winter negativity has evaporated and England cricket fans and punters alike have a real air of optimism heading into the Lord’s Test and beyond,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
