£89,000 Weighty Wager On DeGale Victory

James DeGale has been the subject of a mammoth boxing bet ahead of this weekend’s fight against Andre Dirrell. A high staking William Hill punter has, this week, placed an £89,000 bet on the Olympic gold medallist to win his IBF Super Middleweight title fight in Boston.

Should the punter, who is a regular customer in one of William Hill’s shops in West Yorkshire, win his bet, he will walk away with £160,200 after placing his wager at odds of 4/5.

The win is no guarantee, however with the fight almost too close to call. James DeGale’s price has been shortened from 4/5 to 8/11 but Andre Dirrell is just a shade of odds against at 11/10 with the tie 22/1.

“This is one heck of a gutsy wager given that there is hardly anything between these two fighters,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Not only is there a world title belt on the line, there is also one of the biggest boxing bets of all time.”

Bout betting: 11/10 Andre Dirrell; 8/11 James DeGale; 22/1 tie

Method of victory: 4/1 Dirrell by KO, TKO or DQ; 7/2 DeGale by KO, TKO or DQ; Dirrell by decision or technical decision; 7/4 De Gale by decision or technical decision
