£56,000 Gamble On Tories To Outscore Labour

A sustained gamble has seen the Conservatives backed from 10/11 joint favourites to win the most seats at the General Election to 8/11 clear favourites with William Hill, who have lengthened Labour's odds from 10/11 to 11/10.

'In recent days we have seen an increasing number of three figure bets on the Tories to win most seats, but as they are not noticeably improving their poll ratings,we put the move down to the speculation that the SNP will decimate the Labour vote in Scotland' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. One William Hill West Country-based customer has bet a total of £56,000 on the Tories to win the most seats at various odds, and stands to collect £110,500.

Another result of the SNP factor has seen the odds about Labour winning an overall majority drift dramatically from 6/4 in July 2012, right out to 6/1 at the weekend and now out further to 8/1. In fact, Hills now believe there is much more chance of a Labour minority government - which is a 5/1 shot. 'Whichever way one looks at the rise of the SNP in Scottish constituencies, it means only bad news for Labour according to our clients' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Meanwhile, the odds about a Hung Parliament have shortened consistently and now stand at their shortest yet - 1/ 4, with the same high-rolling West Country Hill's client hoping to collect £51,000 after staking a total of £23,400 in a series of bets which began when the odds were as long as 6/4.
