Tiara the Jewel in the Desert

Special Tiara was a surprise winner of the Desert Orchid Steeple Chase at Kempton Park, with the sponsor’s reacting to the victory by offering 25-1 for the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

Barry Geraghty asked the horse to win it from the front and the Kayf Tara-gelding responded to his urgings well.

“Special Tiara was the jewel in the desert for punters who picked him at odds of 5-1,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Alan King’s Balder Succes was very underwhelming and has been pushed out to 16-1 from 12-1.
