Horse Racing Cheltenham Festival By Jon Ivan-Duke

Silviniaco Superb at Kempton

Silviniaco Conti was a superb winner of the 2014 William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, with the Paul Nicholls-trained winner shortening to 4-1 favourite from 7-1 for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The winner was the antepost favourite for the Gold Cup already, but travelled beautifully throughout and jumped just as well, to enhance his claims.

“It was the worst result for the bookies and it is yet another favourite to give punters some festive cheer on Boxing Day,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Meanwhile, William Hill pushed out Champagne Fever to 16-1 from 12-1 for the Gold Cup. Britain’s biggest bookmaker left the Willie Mullin’s horse unchanged at 10-1 for the Ryanair. “It looked like he didn’t really stay the three mile trip and the betting interest could now be in the middle distance contest,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
