Silviniaco on Kauto's Trail

It’s a month until the William Hill King George VI Chase and to coincide with the countdown to Kempton, William Hill have released a new special ‘double’ market –

‘To Win The 2014 William Hill King George VI Chase & 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup’

Silviniaco Conti is the favourite for both the King George (7-2) and the Gold Cup (7-1) and this translates to the ‘double’ market where he is 22-1. Paul Nicholls’ star chaser would become the first horse since Kauto Star (2006-07 campaign) to win the Betfair Chase, King George and Gold Cup in the same season.

“Over the last 20 years, more than half of all King George favourites have won, but the betting is so competitive we could well see changing favourites for the race between now and Boxing Day,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Champagne Fever is the best-backed horse for the William Hill King George at this stage, since his impressive win at Clonmel. A month ago, Willie Mullins’ star was 10-1 for the race, but he is now 11-2. Champagne Fever is 28-1 to win the King George and follow up in the Cheltenham feature in March.

William Hill also hold historical liabilities on the King George, notably with 5-1 chance Simonsig, but that money has dried up somewhat with doubts over whether he can return to the same level of ability after a long time out of the game. He’s third favourite at 33-1 to land Boxing Day’s biggest race and go on to score in the Gold Cup.
