Rooney To Break Charlton’s Record Against San Marino But Will He Be Beaten By Own Goals?

Wayne Rooney moved to within four goals of breaking the England goalscoring record and William Hill offer 5/2 that the record breaking feat arrives during the San Marino match next year (5th Sep). It is 4/1 that he does so during the Slovenia match (14th Jun) and 5/1 against Switzerland (8th Sep).

In the race to 50 goals, Wayne Rooney has an unlikely challenger – own goals. With 48 own goals scored for England in their history, it is 11/4 that the 50 mark is reached by OGs before Rooney hits the target (1/4 Rooney gets there first).

“Wayne Rooney will break this record and it is now a case of when and not if he does so,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly. “Although he could be trumped by some unfortunate opposition player(s) before then.”

An entertaining match between England and Scotland should give optimism to both sets of fans heading into 2015 and it is 11/8 that both sides qualify for the European Championships.

When will Wayne Rooney break Bobby Charlton’s England goal scoring record of 49 goals (currently on 46)?
