Referendum: Two and Three Quarters Of a Million Gambled

'NO' DOUBT: REFERENDUM BETTING SMASHES ALL RECORDS

BRITAIN'S BIGGEST BOOKMAKERS, William Hill have taken two and three quarters of a million pounds on the outcome of the Scottish Referendum - with one client risking the biggest bet of the century - £900,000 - on a No vote. He stands to collect £1,093,333.33.

'The Referendum has surpassed all expectations for the total gambled, with between £10-12million gambled industry-wide' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'However, perhaps the most extraordinary aspect has been that some 70% of all bets placed have been for Yes; but 70% of all the money staked has been for No.'

NO was favourite from day one and has been as short as 1/12 but as long as 2/5; YES has always been outsider - as short as 7/4, as long as 6/1.
