Hamilton Slashed To Win Sports Personality… Odds On To Win Championship Next Season

After winning the Drivers Championship, Lewis Hamilton has elbowed his way into contention for this year’s Sports Personality Of The Year according to bookmaker, William Hill.

Rory McIlroy, who has led the betting market since winning the Open (being as short as 1/8 at some stages through the year), is 2/9 with Hamilton 3/1 second favourite.

“The last two Drivers Championship wins for Hamilton and Button did not result in victories at SPOTY but golf is notorious for splitting public opinion and so there is every chance that Hamilton could scoop the award that he missed out on in 2008,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

As Nico Rosberg limped out at the final hurdle, it is 6/1 that either he or Hamilton leave Mercedes this winter (1/12 they both stay).

“The two drivers have been fantastic rivals this year and the odds suggest they will renew again next season,” said Crilly.

Hamilton is 4/6 favourite to win the Championship next year with Nico Rosberg 5/2 and Ricciardo 10/1.
