Champagne Far From Vintage

Champagne West has drifted to 20-1 from 14-1 for the RSA Chase and 20-1 from 14-1 for the JLT Novices’ Chase after making heavy weather of a small field in the Ryman Stationery Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.

Philip Hobbs’ gelding had to work hard to hold off Un Ace in the closing stages, while Little Jon gave up his chance by running-out. Champagne West is 16-1 to win any race at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival.

“Champagne West has won but not in the style we might have expected and his chance for a repeat success in March looks significantly weaker,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
