Bookies Not Ruling Out McCoy Record Attempt

William Hill have not ruled out the possibility that AP McCoy could break his own record for number of winners in a season. It’s 7-1 for McCoy to ride more than 289 winners – the current top tally that he set in 2001-02 season.

And McCoy’s declared target of riding 300 or more winners in a season is 8-1.

“While it looks like ‘Mission Impossible’ for a mere mortal, we’ve learnt the hard way never to write off McCoy’s chances,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Meanwhile, William Hill have slashed the odds on Richard Johnson finishing as runner-up. Johnson is now 4-6 from Even-Money to finish as runner-up, while Sam Twiston-Davies has been pushed out to 6-4 from Even-Money.

“Richard Johnson has had a stellar season so far and with the way that the Philip Hobbs-trained horses are running, it looks like more success could be on the horizon,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.
