Balbriggan Backed for Becher & Vukovar Market Tingles

Irish challenger Balbriggan is the popular choice for punters in William Hill shops ahead of the Becher Chase at Aintree on Saturday. William Hill put Gordon Elliott’s progressive chaser as the 9-1 favourite.

“It’s a lively market and the vast majority of bets in our shops have been for Balbriggan. Online is a different picture, with Chance Du Roy and Our Father the two to take,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Meanwhile in the weekend’s big race at Sandown, the Tingle Creek Chase, Vukovar has been smashed across all of the William Hill betting platforms. Harry Fry’s horse has been cut from 20-1 to 11-2 since Monday.

“Punters are catapulting their cash at Vukovar like he can’t lose. He’s easily the worst result for us,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke. “Harry Fry has become a trainer that punters trust with their hard-earned cash and we certainly have a huge amount of respect for anything that is supported from his yard.”

Harry Fry has had 12 runners in the last two weeks (21st Nov to 4th Dec) – only two of them have started at odds of bigger than 5-2 and six of his runners have been the favourite.
