Horse Racing Cheltenham Festival By Jon Ivan-Duke

2015 Racing Specials: Ireland ready to Dominate

As the New Year approaches, William Hill have come up with some racing specials to whet the appetite for 2015 – and it could be a good year for the Irish.

Looking ahead to the Cheltenham Festival and it’s Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh who William Hill expect to be crowned Top Trainer and Top Jockey – both are odds-on for their respective categories.

Willie Mullins is 16/1 to sweep the novice hurdles (Supreme, Neptune and Albert Bartlett), which has already been backed in from 20/1, while the same trainer is 25/1 to land the three big novice chases (Arkle, JLT, RSA).

However, the 2013 number of Irish-trained winners will take some beating, with William Hill going 9/1 that the record is broken at this year’s Festival.

“It could pay to follow the Irish at Cheltenham, in particular Willie Mullins, who will have incredibly strong ammunition for the Festival,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

It’s also 9/1 that AP McCoy breaks the record for winners in a season (289), while he’s 12/1 to smash the 300-barrier.

Turning to the Flat and Ireland could be celebrating more success in the Investec Derby – it’s 4/11 that the Irish follow-up Australia’s 2014 win with further Epsom glory, with England at 9/4 and France at 12/1.

Frankie Dettori is 7/1 to pick up his first UK/Irish Classic success since 2011, when he landed the English 1000 Guineas and the Irish Oaks on Blue Bunting.

Aidan O’Brien has been the man to follow in the Classic’s in recent seasons and he is 33/1 to clean-sweep all 5 English Classics.

“Aidan O’Brien has such an array of talent that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he could win all the Classics in 2015,” said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke.

Internationally, Treve was the supermare again in 2014 and she is 8/1 to go unbeaten in 2015, while it’s 8/11 that France gain success in the 2015 Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe.

And after winning the Flat Trainers’ Championship in his rookie season, Richard Hannon is 4/6 to defend his title.
