Online bookmakers report hundred-fold increase in players

As Britain ground to a halt on Wednesday because of the snow, reported a record breaking surge, with tens of thousands of players online at once, as those stranded at home or offices logged on to play poker, bingo, roulette and other casino games.

Stranded Britain has turned to the tables with a near hundred-fold spike in online players set to smash all records for both the number of players online in a single day and for turnover, with forecasts of more than £100m set to be gambled with online companies.

"We have seen a ten-fold leap in new registrations alone from people stuck at home and bored and we look like shattering all previous records for the number of online players on the website site at any one time. The bingo, poker and casino rooms are full to bursting and literally millions is being wagered ", said David Hood, spokesman for

Literally hundreds of millions of pounds will be wagered on the internet in this 24hour period by Britons stranded at home, but the snow clouds could provide a couple of players with a £1m silver lining with almost double that amount up for grabs on two William Hill slot jackpots. The Clover Rollover jackpot sits is at £1.1m and the Big Top Tombola is at £800,000 and both are still rising.

With horseracing being wiped out as well, punters are turning to the virtual equivalent (, with a random number generated horse, greyhound or motor race taking place every minute.
