McCoy: Order Of St George Is My Best Bet For Royal Ascot
In his latest exclusive blog for William Hill, Sir Anthony McCoy offers his forthright views on the recent 'mix-ups' at the BHA, plus his best bets for Royal Ascot and Euro 2016.
I think the BHA need to get their house in order. It doesn't look good for the game. If it was people involved in the sport who had made the kind of mistakes they have made, then they would have been severely reprimanded. They can't afford to be making the errors they are making. Racing is a huge industry and they are not doing anybody any favours. We can all make mistakes, but there seem to be plenty being made at the moment. There have been a few cases that just look bad and should never have gone that far. The BHA were told things and they just ignored them. What happens to most people if you don't do your job? You get replaced, don't you?
It's a great week for racing, with Royal Ascot taking place, and Aidan O'Brien will be the man to stop. There's a few of his horses that should win. Order Of St George won at Leopardstown the other week and I've never seen a horse come up the straight like it. He could give Postponed a race in the King George, never mind the Ascot Gold Cup. He's a proper horse. Caravaggio is another. He ran about a bit at the Curragh, but he'll take some beating.
ROYAL ASCOT: BANKER OR BLOWOUT?
Order Of St George - BANKER
A Shin Hikari - BLOWOUT
The Gurkha - BANKER
Tepin - BLOWOUT
Sir Anthony McCoy's best bet of Royal Ascot: Order Of St George for the Ascot Gold Cup
It's good to see Joseph O'Brien already having a few winners and he is going to be a great success in both codes. How could he not be a successful trainer? He's just a mini-me of his old man, only Joseph was a much better jockey! JP McManus has supported him from the off. Triumph Hurdle winner Ivanovich Gorbatov, for example, that was all Joseph's work. I'd say Joseph could challenge Willie Mullins and maybe even his Dad might be a bit worried he will be challenging him!
I played in Soccer Aid the other week and it was great. All the players stayed in the same hotel together, so there was good fun at night, with the likes of Jack Whitehall, Paddy McGuinness and John Bishop. England won, but the Rest Of The World team had World Cup Winners like Cafu, Ronaldinho and Dida. Ronaldinho had no English whatsoever, but he was just there for the craic. Jaap Stam was very good company, he's a big man with a great presence. I think England were a bit worried, so they put on current Premier League players like Jermain Defoe, just so England would win something this summer!
I'm enjoying the Euros. Of the Home Nations, England have a solid team and I think they should really be going the furthest in the competition. Wales are very reliant on Gareth Bale, but they could be dark horses. Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland have done really well to qualify for the tournament and anything else is a bonus. I fancy France to win the Euros, because they are the hosts, they've got a very good squad and I think Antoine Griezmann could be top scorer.
