Tell us about your role and what it involves:
As a Sportsbook Software Test Engineer, my job is to make sure we deliver new sports features to the highest standards in terms of quality. This means I need to make sure there are no defects or frictions on customer journeys before our features reach the customers.
What excites you about tech at William Hill?
Before working in tech I was working as a content editor for the WH Spain, where our main goal was to provide customer with quality content and promotions that keep them engaged and drive them towards the bets we most want to push at that time. It was a proactive and creative role, looking to introduce new ideas or features to make WH the first choice for our clients.
Having worked on the creative side of things for more than 8 years, I was intrigued and interested in the development and delivery of the end products. I had no technical experience at the time, but a desire and willingness to learn and this is what excites me the most about working for William Hill. If you’re a hard worker, you’re willing to learn and you have a realistic career objective, you will have opportunities to pursue them.
Which projects are you most proud of that you’ve worked on here?
I am proud of being part of the Spitfire Sportsbook project and being surrounded by so many talented people from who you always learn something.
How do you go one better every day?
When testing features I always try to put myself in the position of the customer to find things we should improve or correct before delivering the final product.
If there is something I don’t know how to do, I take the challenge and learn how to do it on the go, always being humble and without being afraid to ask more experienced colleagues for support or input.
Can you tell us a bit about your career story?
I started my career in WH nine years ago as a copy writer for the Spanish site, then moved to sports to work as a content editor, later worked as Casino content editor and recently started as a Software Test Engineer for Sports.
My biggest challenge was moving to the Tech side of the company but I was sure I wanted to take this step in my career and learn.
During my 9 years at WH I have made some friends who will last a lifetime, I enjoyed an awards event in Brighton, visited the Sofia office, applied for a position successfully whilst being pregnant, enjoyed 13 months off in total following the birth of my son, by combining holiday, maternity leave and unpaid leave. This allowed me to enjoy his first year without the worry of having to leave him in care whilst he was very young. I also won tickets to big concerts, football matches and a skydive in Seville as part of one of the initiatives WH had a few years ago to make your dreams come true.
For all of these reasons and more I have never considered leaving WH and I have no plans to!
