Meet Jordan, a BA in Test, in Leeds. We went behind the bet and found out a little bit more about Jordan and his life at William Hill.
What did you do before your joined William Hill?
I studied computing at Leeds Met, moved back to Newcastle for a while, travelled, then started looking for Graduate jobs.
Why William Hill?
The main reason was that the company operates in the sports industry. Relating to the job role; it entailed some Java development and different forms of testing, both of which were elements I enjoyed on my university course.
What’s your career journey so far?
I started as a Graduate Software Test Engineer in Leeds working within the International channel. After 6 months I "graduated" to become a fully-fledged STE for 18 months. Then I found that I had a choice to make - to go into automated development in test, or the business route and actually found that the business route suited me better. I let my manager know, spoke to BAs / PMs in the channel and started a BCS Business Analyst course. I was then able to secure a BA role 9 months later.
What’s been your highlight?
Won Employee of the Quarter across William Hill for Q4, 2014 and also won Graduate Tester of the Year at The European Software Testing Awards in 2015.
What advice would you give to thinking of a career in test?
Relating to William Hill, as long as you've got either an interest in sport and tech/development, go for it. You've got nothing to lose.
