Rooney Odds On For England Recall

With Gareth Southgate set to name his first England squad of the new season on Thursday, William Hill are odds on that Wayne Rooney wins a recall. He is 4/7 to feature in the squad for the Malta and Slovakia games. Trent Alexander-Arnold has impressed so far this season for Liverpool and is 6/4 to earn a call up, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nathaniel Chalobah are 5/2 and 4/1 respectively to be called up.

“Rooney’s second stint at Everton could not have had a much better start and a happy Rooney is a good Rooney and we could be set to see him return for England,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Joe Hart has not had the best start at West Ham, conceding seven goals in two games, yet he is Even money to start the Malta game between the sticks, with Jack Butland 5/2 and Jordan Pickford 11/4.

“There are a number of goalkeepers who could start between the sticks but Joe Hart looks set to hold on to the number one shirt for now,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.
