Meet Patrick - MD William Hill International and CEO Mr Green Malta
Patrick Jonker, our new MD William Hill International and CEO Mr Green Malta, tells us his story. Find out about more him, his connection to Big Brother and why he's excited about the opportunities for international.
Tell us a bit about you
I’m Dutch but have I’ve lived in Malta for four and a half years now. I grew up in Amsterdam, and studied Management, law and economics at university there. I’ve been together with my wife Doesjka for 18 years and we have a 16 year old daughter Luna. I’m a very competitive person and I make a competition out of everything I’m involved in. In my spare time I play squash and am very competitive at that! The gambling industry is what brought me and my family to Malta and we enjoy the lifestyle that the island has to offer. I enjoy gaming too and in fact, I play on most of the sites across our industry.
Tell us a bit about your career to date
I started my career in TV with a Dutch company that you may have heard of – Endemol. It created and ran reality, talent and game show franchises worldwide, including Big Brother and Deal or No Deal. I started as an Editor, then moved onto Director of participation TV. This was all about getting people to participate in TV through apps and SMS. The role was worldwide, I travelled a lot and lived in Asia for seven months. I did that for 10 years, then moved to be the Digital Director for the Netherlands lottery. After that I worked for a media agency as Business Group Director and my team was responsible for strategy and media buying for our customers. I moved to Malta in 2014 to become MD of Betsson and my responsibilities there included CRM, marketing and my favourite… the product.
Tell us a bit about your new role
I’m the MD for William Hill International and CEO Mr Green Malta. My role is about finding the right combination and synergies between the two brands. It’s great to have William Hill International and Mr Green under one roof in Malta. We can really explore best practice and make sure we take the best of both worlds so that we can expand the brands successfully.
Tell us what you’re most excited about joining William Hill
The brand itself. It’s known all over the world. It’s an old brand, but a very respected one and it’s an honour to join it. The opportunities we have are fantastic and we can give more focus to international expansion than ever before. I think it’s a really exciting time for our brands in the international market.
Most interesting fact about you
Well as I said before I love squash and I’ve very competitive. In 2004 I won a squash competition in my home town against 40 opponents from neighbouring towns and cities.
